1. A good team of selectors, accompanied by consistent policies of selection, are prerequisites to select good teams.
2. Each selected individual must perform their expected role.
3. Desire and hunger to win matches should be a prime motivating force.
4. Each batsman should complement other batsmen to put up a decent score on the board.
5. Batsmen and bowlers must acclimatize themselves to the conditions expected on tour. This is essential to prevent the team becoming backyard bullies. A great cricket team is one that can win matches consistently both at home and away.
6. Each bowler should strive to get wickets in his spell(aggression is the best form of defense) without giving away too many runs.
7. The team should place good close-in fielders to apply pressure on the batsman's psyches and make them think twice before every shot played.
